In today’s Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the Inter head coach has been lauded for the decisions he made ahead of the Ajax match.

The newspaper highlight his decision to not immediately drop Yann Sommer, despite his struggles against Juventus last weekend.

This strongly showed that Chivu was not going to let the press and fans influence him.

Many fans and journalists called for Spaniard Josep Martinez to be given a chance.

The Corriere report that Chivu’s choice to leave out Lautaro Martinez was also a good one.

The Argentine star had looked a little worse for wear in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus.

He only returned from international duty a couple of days before the loss to the Bianconeri.

Therefore, Chivu allowed the player to recover this week.

Youngster Pio Esposito came into the team and worked hard for Chivu’s side.

Finally, the Corriere note that Chivu did not turn entirely to rotation and youth, however.

He instead gave minutes to more experienced players, with more experience in the competition.

This was to capitalise on the club’s experience in recent seasons.
