Cristian Volpato has been fined after being stopped twice for speeding on the same night in Sydney, the second stop returning a positive cocaine test.

According to L'Équipe, the Australia international, 22, was ordered to pay 722 Australian dollars, about 450 euros, for the late-July incidents, a few days after he had featured in three World Cup matches this summer.

The Sassuolo winger was first pulled over, undertook a breath test that proved negative, and received a speeding ticket.

He was stopped again roughly two hours later, tested positive for cocaine, and had his driving licence removed immediately.

The off-field episode has not affected his start to the season with the Italian club, for whom he has one goal and one assist in five matches.
