According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have married, shown by an Instagram photo posted by both on Tuesday of two hands wearing wedding bands and the text "C <3 G".

The wedding had been eagerly anticipated by supporters, who gathered in their hundreds at the cathedral in Funchal last Saturday after rumours the ceremony would be held there.

Funchal is the forward’s birthplace in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira.

Weeks earlier, there had also been speculation that the wedding would take place in the Lisbon metropolitan area.

Cristiano and ‘Gio’ announced a year ago that they were engaged after almost a decade together and several children in common.
