According to Glorioso 1904, Cristiano Ronaldo was left furious with Jorge Jesus after a private conversation in which Spanish journalist and close friend Edu Aguirre said the Portugal manager admitted mishandling him against Norway.
Jesus apologised for making Ronaldo warm up for about 30 minutes without sending him on, and promised to acknowledge the mistake in public, the report said.
The meeting took place on Tuesday night and also included FPF president Pedro Proença.
The following day Jesus spoke publicly about player selection without repeating any apology, instead emphasising that he alone decides and that Cristiano is just another member of the squad.
In his remarks, Jesus rejected suggestions of conflict and said status brings respect for a career but no special rights. He added that he sets plans with players yet retains the final call, and if he needs someone for 30 minutes they play, if not, they do not. He said no player or president would ever change his ideas.
Aguirre characterised the episode as a betrayal.
