“It was an immense privilege to play with Cristiano. He is different from everybody else - a leader, a tireless worker, and a player of great quality. Many people think he’s only about power, but they’re wrong…he’s an extraterrestrial.” Marcelo told FourFourTwo.
“Both of us are players shaped by the streets - we learned to play barefoot and just enjoyed ourselves. It’s part of our essence, so we understood each other perfectly with just a glance. Cristiano gave me advice from time-to-time - he was smart and understood the challenges we faced in every match.”
Ronaldo first dazzled at Manchester United as a fleet-footed winger, winning the first of five Champions League titles and a handful of Ballons d’Or at Old Trafford.
He became Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and claimed Golden Boots with Juventus and Al-Nassr. As captain of Portugal, he has lifted a European Championship and two UEFA Nations League titles.
Now 41, he is preparing for a sixth World Cup finals this summer amid questions over his club future, and he shows little sign of slowing despite a current injury.
In pursuit of 1,000 competitive goals, he has moved beyond 960. He owns 34 trophies and his place among the all-time greats has long been secure.
