Cristiano Ronaldo can return to Portugal squad, says Jorge Jesus | OneFootball

Cristiano Ronaldo can still return to Portugal duty if he makes himself available, Jorge Jesus has said, after the captain’s abrupt exit from camp. According to Goal.com, the door remains open ahead of November’s fixtures.

Jesus said he would only address the issue after completing Sunday’s run of four Nations League games. He added that any return rests entirely with Ronaldo, the world-record scorer with 146 goals in 234 caps, whom he previously coached at Al-Nassr.

Tensions escalated when Ronaldo started the opening 1-0 victory over Wales, then was benched in Norway and told he might or might not play. He spent the second half warming up without coming on, his first time as an unused substitute in a competitive Portugal match since 2008.

After Jesus later confirmed he would not start against Denmark, the captain left the camp. Ronaldo said on social media that he would in time explain to Portuguese fans why he departed a team he has always served with dedication.

In his absence, AC Milan forward Goncalo Ramos scored in all three starts while leading the line. Joao Cancelo called Ronaldo their captain and greatest player, expressing confidence matters would end well, while Nuno Mendes said he would be welcomed back with open arms.

Portugal host Denmark on 14 November, then visit Wales three days later. A 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday sealed a quarter-final berth and opened a six-point lead over Denmark after four straight victories.
