Cristiano Ronaldo has effectively ruled himself out of playing at the Club World Cup this summer but says he does not currently have any plans to retire from football.
Ronaldo, 40, scored for Portugal in their 2-1 Nations League win over Germany on Wednesday, helping his side to the final of the competition where they will take on Spain.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward’s contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr expires this month, but Ronaldo could be set to stay with the side after revealing he has turned down offers from teams who are taking part in the Club World Cup this summer.
“Some teams have reached out to me,” he said. “Some things make sense, others don’t make sense.
“I’ve made a decision. It’s almost certain that I will not be at the Club World Cup but I was contacted.”
Ronaldo is approaching a staggering 1,000 career goals, and says he has not yet decided when he will call it a day.
“I think about the day to day,” he said. “I try to live in the present and not to think about the future too much.
“It’s working fine as it is. It’s not a surprise to anybody that I haven’t got many years ahead of me but I’m enjoying the moment. If I had decided on a date, I wouldn’t be able to say because I might get up in the morning tomorrow and say I don’t want to play anymore.
“But right now, I don’t feel that way. I’m enjoying the moment. The last game I scored and I enjoyed it. I’m going to play a final tomorrow so I’m really happy, independent of winning or not.
“Of course, it’s not the same (not winning). If you win it motivates you to keep working but right now I’m enjoying myself and like we said, let the air flow. Let things happen.”
