Robert Prosinecki has offered a warm but measured assessment of Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sucic, backing the young Croatian to emulate Marcelo Brozovic’s success in Serie A while stopping short of comparing him to the incomparable Luka Modric.
Modric being the man the Yugoslavia and Croatia legend reserved his most effusive praise for in a wide-ranging interview with Flashscore.
On Sucic, who has been gradually building his involvement under Cristian Chivu this season after his summer arrival, Prosinecki was encouraging.
“He came from Bosnia and Herzegovina and had a great experience at Dinamo Zagreb. You can see he has a huge amount of talent, he works for the team, he has an impressive mentality and he knows how to play,” he said, with quotes via FCInter1908.
The comparison to Brozovic, who became one of Serie A’s finest midfielders during his Inter years, is a significant one.
“I hope he can be like Brozovic in terms of his career in Serie A. He probably does not have Luka’s level, but he is there and I am sure he can play at a high level.”
That caveat about Modric led naturally into Prosinecki’s broader tribute to one of football’s greatest ever players, who faced Inter in last weekend’s Milan derby.
“He is special, he is 40 years old and still playing real football. Many years at Real Madrid, now at Milan, still with the national team. He finished second and third at the World Cup with a country of three or four million inhabitants. That is not normal. Physically, what can I say? It is incredible that he can sustain this level, and not in minor leagues. Only he can do this. He went to Italy for his mentality, to win the league. Chapeau.”
Prosinecki also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Edin Dzeko, describing the former Inter striker in the most glowing terms.
“He is a born goalscorer, more than 50 goals in every league he has played in. Manchester City, Roma, Inter, impressive. At over 1.90 metres he is technically gifted and very important for his national team. Probably the best they have ever had.”
