Bruno Rodrigues has sparked memes after echoing Lucas Paquetá’s presentation line, declaring his need for Cruzeiro soon after the Flamengo star’s return.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo pulled off the biggest domestic signing of the window by bringing Paquetá from West Ham in England. Unveiled in early February, he said the Rio club might not have needed him, but that he needed them.

Roughly two weeks later, Rodrigues offered a near-identical sentiment on landing in Belo Horizonte, saying Cruzeiro did not need him, but that he badly needed Cruzeiro. The resemblance in phrasing, and the quick turnaround, drew attention across social media.

Rodrigues also has unhappy recent memories involving Flamengo. While at Palmeiras in 2025, he finished runner-up in both the Brasileirão and the Libertadores, losing the titles to Flamengo in each competition.

Now at Cruzeiro, he follows a path taken by others who have worn Flamengo’s colours recently, including Gerson and Fabrício Bruno. At the Minas club, though, they have yet to lift trophies as they were accustomed to doing at Flamengo.
