Cruzeiro’s SAF owner Pedrinho BH recognised Flamengo’s superiority after his club’s Libertadores elimination, and offered them his backing to reach the final.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Pedrinho said the defeat did not mean something was wrong. He underlined they have a high-level coach, contracted until 2030, and a good team, but noted Flamengo’s investment is far greater.
He felt the match was played on equal terms for spells, yet Flamengo were better on the night and won. He congratulated them and said he will keep supporting them to get to the final.
Cruzeiro have little time to dwell. They face Flamengo again on Saturday, 22, in the Campeonato Brasileiro at Mineirão, kick-off 20:30 Brasília time.
Attention then turns to the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals, now the club’s priority after their continental exit, against rivals Atlético-MG. The first leg is on Tuesday, 25, at 21:00 at Mineirão, with the return a week later at Arena MRV. Pedrinho admitted the difficulty and said they must attack the cup, adding the draw was not kind.
After eliminating Cruzeiro, Flamengo move into the Libertadores quarter-finals and could meet Tolima (COL) or Independiente del Valle (EQU). The last-eight ties will be played over two legs in September, with the 2026 final on 28 November at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay.
