Cruzeiro were left aggrieved after a potential goal was ruled out following a VAR check during their Conmebol Libertadores match against Flamengo at the Maracanã.

According to Globo.com, early in the second half a cross led to midfielder Jorginho clearing the ball on the goal-line, with Cruzeiro players insisting it had crossed.

Referee Gustavo Tejera consulted VAR to determine whether the ball had fully crossed the line, then signalled a goal kick.

At the time of the incident Flamengo were 1-0 ahead. Shortly after, Lucas Romero equalised.

Minutes later, Samuel Lino restored the Rio club’s lead with their second.
