Crystal Palace and Everton are closing in on a swap deal involving Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil. The Standard understands that both players will undergo medicals on Monday after being granted permission to travel.
If completed, the straight swap would include four-year contracts. Johnson joined Palace in January for £35 million from Tottenham, then a club-record signing.
He made 13 Premier League starts and 26 appearances in all competitions, but did not score for the Eagles.
McNeil was close to moving to Selhurst Park on deadline day in January, initially on loan before a £20 million permanent switch, but the move collapsed when paperwork was not finalised in time. His partner Megan Sharpley later criticised the saga and said it affected his mental health.
Palace have since changed head coach, with Pierre Sage replacing Oliver Glasner, though their interest in McNeil has remained. The winger had entered the final 12 months of his Everton deal, and the swap is viewed as suiting all parties.
If finalised, Johnson and McNeil would quickly face their former clubs when Everton host Palace on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
