Everton and Crystal Palace in talks over Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil | OneFootball

According to NY Times, Everton are in talks to sign Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace in a deal that could send Dwight McNeil to Selhurst Park.

Johnson, 25, joined Palace from Tottenham Hotspur in January for £35million, a then club-record fee. McNeil, 26, has been at Everton since the summer of 2022 and has one year left on his contract.

Talks between the clubs are continuing over a move involving both wingers. Johnson has long been on Everton’s radar dating back to his Nottingham Forest spell before joining Spurs.

The Wales international has struggled to make a sustained impact at Palace, with 26 appearances, 16 starts and two assists. He was an unused substitute in Palace’s UEFA Conference League final win over Rayo Vallecano in May.

McNeil has spent four seasons at Everton since leaving Burnley, scoring 15 goals and supplying 19 assists in 128 games. The former England youth international, who came through Manchester United’s academy, has also been used in attacking midfield.

Last season he was deemed surplus to requirements and a deadline day loan-with-obligation switch to Palace collapsed. He had completed a medical and a deal sheet extended the window by two hours, but the final paperwork never arrived and the deadline passed without further contact from Palace.

After the collapse, McNeil’s partner Megan Sharpley posted on Instagram, describing a move taken away at the last moment and a period of silence that left them heartbroken and confused.
