Club Brugge have turned down a Crystal Palace bid for centre-back Joel Ordonez. According to NY Times, the offer did not match the Belgian club's valuation.

Palace are seeking defensive reinforcements after captain Marc Guehi joined Manchester City earlier this month.

In the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Chadi Riad made only his second appearance since an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January last year. He started alongside Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards, with 19-year-old Jaydee Canvot on the bench. Midfielder Jefferson Lerma has also filled in at the back.

Ordonez, 21, signed a new contract in September, extending his Brugge deal to 2029. He has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once.

The Ecuador international came through Independiente del Valle, debuting in 2022, and joined Brugge that August. He initially played for Club NXT, the reserves in Belgium's second tier.

He was used sparingly in 2023-24, then broke into the side late on, helping reach the Conference League semi-finals. The following season he established himself, making 45 appearances as Brugge reached the Champions League last 16 before elimination by Aston Villa.

Ordonez has eight Ecuador caps and was in the 2024 Copa America squad, but was an unused substitute in all four matches.
