Busy Deadline Day as Eagles prepare to spend £70m on Deadline Day

Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal to sign Dwight McNeil on Deadline Day.

Late interest has accelerated ahead of Monday’s 7pm transfer deadline, and Standard Sport understands that Palace hopeful that deal worth around £20million will be concluded in time.

McNeil has struggled for game time this season, featuring in 14 of Everton’s 24 Premier League games, and the imminent arrival of Tyrique George from Chelsea could push him further down the pecking order.

Palace, meanwhile, are keen to add attacking depth to their squad as they look to make a charge for Conference League qualification in the second half of the season.

McNeil’s arrival from Everton will take Palace’s Deadline Day spend to close to £70m, with Jorgen Strand Larsen set to join from Wolves in a club-record deal that could reach £48m.

Strand Larsen has completed a medical, with official announcement expected soon.

Palace are set to pay an up front fee of £43m, with a further £5m in add-ons, smashing the £35m they paid to bring in Brennan Johnson from Tottenham earlier in the window.

A deal for Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave the club also remains in the works.

Mateta was set to join AC Milan in a £30m deal before the Serie A giants pulled out after multiple medical tests aimed at discovering the extent of a knee injury the French forward has been struggling with.

Juventus are said to hold an interest in Mateta, who is keen to play in Italy and has expressed his desire to leave Palace, but both parties are running out of time to come to an agreement.
