Crystal Palace are eyeing a move to bring Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong to Selhurst Park, according to Sky Sports.
Palace are looking for defensive reinforcements following Marc Guehi’s exit, and Acheampong is an option.
The young Palace target is a fantastic defender blessed with excellent reading of the game and pace.
He is outstanding in the air and great on the ground with a bright future ahead of him. He can fill in as a centre-back, right-back or in midfield.
Palace are probing whether Chelsea would be open to a loan deal or consider a permanent sale. The Eagles are fighting to be ahead of the queue and rightly so.
Acheampong played a key role as the Blues won the Europa Conference League and secured some Premier League experience last season.
The 19-year-old would be an excellent pick-up for Palace if they can persuade Chelsea to budge.
Acheampong is precisely the kind of profile they have built their recent success on. He is young, fearless, athletic and tactically intelligent.
He already shows maturity beyond his years and, in the right environment, has the tools to develop into a genuinely world-class defender.
With regular minutes and responsibility, Selhurst Park could be the ideal stage for that progression, while Palace would secure a long-term solution in the heart of their defence.
Palace must have a strong fallback if they fail to sign Acheampong, and Trevoh Chalobah fits the bill.
With Chelsea expected to pursue another centre-back, Chalobah could be made available.
His Premier League experience, versatility and composure would offer immediate stability. One way or another, Palace must act decisively.
