Fans displayed a banner at Selhurst Park in August following a summer of animosity between Palace and Nottingham Forest

Crystal Palace have been charged by the FA for a banner displayed by their fans which depicted Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis holding a gun to the head of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Palace fans displayed the banner when Forest visited Selhurst Park in the Premier League in August, following a summer of animosity between the two clubs.

Forest benefited when they took Palace’s place in the Europa League when the Eagles were demoted to the Conference League for breaking UEFA rules on multi-club ownership.

The banner referenced a series of serious unsubstantiated allegations against Marinakis, who denies any wrongdoing in relation to the allegations.

Gibbs-White came close to leaving Forest for Tottenham in the summer after Spurs appeared to trigger a £60million release clause.

But he signed a new contract at Forest and spoke about his decision during an interview alongside Marinakis.

A statement from the FA released on Wednesday read: “Crystal Palace FC has been charged with misconduct in relation to its Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest FC on Sunday 24 August.

“It’s alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) didn’t behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, insulting and/or provocative way during the fixture.

“Crystal Palace FC has until Tuesday 11 November to provide a response.”
