Crystal Palace are reported to have regained the upper hand over Sunderland in the race to sign Olympique Lyonnais’ Malick Fofana (21), according to Foot Mercato.

Initially linked with the Black Cats, the Belgian ultimately changed his mind, favouring the Eagles’ project, as they offered OL more money to secure his services. However, a strong comeback from Sunderland – notably offering higher commissions to the player’s agents – had once again shaken things up.

Yet another twist that this time seemed to confirm the London club’s chances of signing the young winger. And still. Keen to lure him to Selhurst Park, Palace’s management are said to have decided to meet the player’s financial demands, with Fofana already appearing to have given his preference to the team managed by Pierre Sage – who convinced Fofana to join him – and his entourage.

Still in limbo, the 21-year-old is said to have undergone his medical in Lyon, without knowing which club he would ultimately sign for. And given recent developments, further twists cannot be ruled out before the transfer window officially closes.
