Brazil's Secretariat for Federal Assets, SPU, has scheduled the auction of the CT Rei Pelé site for four August. The 39,027.56 m² plot covers the entire Santos training complex and is valued at R$ 79.7 million.
The government began receiving proposals on 25 May, with a public session set for August. Full details are available on the federal government's official property sales website.
The notice lists 2,922.34 m² of built area and cites youth facilities, three pitches, the Recanto dos Alvinegros hotel and parking.
"We are in a tender process with the Federal Government for the current CT Rei Pelé area, which serves the men's and women's first teams as well as the under-20s. There we intend to acquire the area. We have preference in this bidding process. We will wait for the correct dates so that Santos can also make this acquisition," said president Marcelo Teixeira, speaking to CNN on Sunday.
Under the terms, any interested party that financed the valuation will only be invited to exercise the right of preference after the winner of the price stage is declared and all appeals are concluded.
The pursuit predates the current board. In December 2021 then president Andres Rueda said a proposal had been submitted to the SPU, and in May 2023 the club formalised a bid. In July last year the board voiced confidence, then in August the Federal Public Prosecutor opened an investigation into possible favouritism, with Santos denying any irregularity.
In January 2024 the club announced it had exercised its right to buy the CT area, and noted the assistance of former federal deputy Júnior Bozzella, an adviser to the presidency.
