The Referees Committee, the CTA, admitted in their weekly review that Fran Beltran’s late winner in Girona’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona should not have stood, adding that the correct decision was a foul, the goal disallowed and a yellow card.

Girona edged the Catalan derby 2-1 at Montilivi last week.

With three minutes remaining, Jules Kounde went into a challenge with Manchester City loanee Claudio Echeverri, who stepped on his foot. The French defender went down and stayed on the turf.

Play continued and the ball was cut back for Beltran to finish, with Kounde still lying just in front of him.

The referee did not award a foul at the time and VAR did not intervene or send the referee to the screen.

The incident provoked controversy in Catalonia.
