Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has given his first public assessment of new signing Anthony Gordon, with the young centre-back speaking positively about the England international following his arrival from Newcastle United.
The Catalan giants made a major statement in the transfer market earlier this summer by securing Gordon’s signature in a deal worth €80 million.
The former Newcastle United winger has signed a long-term contract running until 2031 and is expected to play a key role in Hansi Flick’s project moving forward.
While much of the attention surrounding Gordon has focused on his transfer fee and potential role in the squad, Cubarsi’s opinion offers an insight into how the new arrival is being viewed within the Barcelona dressing room.
Having faced Gordon in the Champions League during the 2025/26 season, Cubarsi is already familiar with the qualities that convinced Barcelona to invest heavily in the English attacker.

The defender was asked about the club’s newest signing during an interview with Mundo Deportivo and made it clear that he is a fan of Gordon’s profile.
“He’s very good. He’s a player I’ve watched quite a lot and studied closely because we’ve played against him this season.
“He’s a very versatile forward who’s excellent at finding space… He’s a player who’s committed to the team, and I really like that.”
Even after completing Gordon’s signing, Barcelona continue to be linked with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine remains one of the most admired forwards among the club’s decision-makers, although any potential operation remains extremely difficult due to Atletico Madrid’s reluctance to negotiate with a direct rival.
Cubarsi was also asked about Alvarez during the interview and acknowledged the quality of the World Cup winner, although he reinforced his backing of Gordon and Ferran Torres.
“He’s a spectacular player, as I said. We all know how good he is.
“There are plenty of rumours, as there are every summer, but I’m sticking with the players we have now: Ferran and Gordon, who’s just joined us,” he added.
