Renato Gaúcho’s arrival at Vasco reunites him with Cuiabano, giving the left-back a fresh chance to impress the coach who handed him his senior debut at Grêmio in January 2023.

According to Globo.com, Cuiabano was among Vasco’s final additions in the 2026 international window, and this reunion could be pivotal after he left Grêmio because he was not among Renato’s first-choice options.

Often pushed higher to cover absences, he delivered bright spells, including a goal against Bahia in the 2023 Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. In 2024 he slipped to third choice after Mayk arrived, now at Novorizontino, and the club and coach did not oppose a move to Botafogo worth R$ 7 million to R$ 8 million.

Two years ago, Renato underlined the depth at left-back, naming Reinaldo, Mayk, Zé Guilherme and Wesley Costa. He also stressed that while Cuiabano was a good player, there were about five in that role, staff trusted those who stayed and the club sometimes needed to raise funds.

At Vasco, Cuiabano has two appearances so far. On loan from Nottingham Forest until the end of the year, he has used the current gap without matches to work on his fitness. Renato is still trialling his XI to face Palmeiras on Thursday at 19:30 in the Campeonato Brasileiro, and both Cuiabano and Lucas Piton have trained with the starters this week.
