Fernando Malafaia used International Women’s Day to condemn violence against women before Corinthians beat Vasco da Gama 3-1 to reach the Super Copa Gramado quarter-finals.

“I will use the broadcaster’s big audience to talk about this special morning, but I do not know if we have anything to celebrate. Statistics show that in 2025 there were 4 million acts of violence against women in Brazil, in various forms, with several homicides. As a citizen I feel ashamed and sad. We need to do something as a society”, he told LNFTV before kick-off at the Ginásio Perinão.

Recent figures released in March 2026 put femicides at 1,568 in 2025, the highest in a decade and up 4.7% on 2024. Monitoring across nine states suggested roughly 12 women suffered some form of violence every 24 hours last year. Under-reporting means the true totals could be higher.

Corinthians also marked the day on their social channels, calling for an end to violence against women. The club restated commitments to safety, dignity and equality, and flagged reporting lines such as Ligue 180, a 24-hour helpline.

On Monday at 21:00, Corinthians face Atlântico Erechim at the Ginásio Perinão for a place in the semi-finals.
