Curtis Jones on Brink of Inter Milan Move

Article image:Curtis Jones on Brink of Inter Milan Move

The case of Curtis Jones at Liverpool has long been a curious one. On the one hand, he is a boyhood Scouser who has long dreamed of playing for the club and has achieved that dream numerous times. On the other hand, he is someone who has something of an inflated sense of his own ability, which hasn’t always chimed with how a lot of the supporters, to say nothing of his managers see him.

He is definitely more than good enough to be a squad player, but the player himself has always wanted more, which is why a move to Inter Milan now looks a certainty.

The Scouser Left in the Team

It was Trent Alexander-Arnold about whom the Kop used to sing that he was ‘the Scouser in the team’, before he forced through a move to our European rivals in Real Madrid. After that, Curtis Jones naturally became the replacement for those looking to find a Scouse heartbeat in the side, with Andoni Iraola himself saying last month, “It’s very important that he’s Scouse, that he’s from here.” Perhaps it was his Scouse nature that had him believing that was the best player on the pitch every time he pulled on the Red shirt, even if the evidence suggested otherwise.

Regardless, the player clearly wanted more than a bit-part role in the Liverpool team, so when it became clear that he wasn’t going to get one, we began to see a side of him that was less than endearing. Strops on the pitch in pre-season games certainly didn’t help his cause, whilst no one who has watched him on a regular basis would seriously say that he’s worth the same money as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. That is reportedly what he was after, though, so that was only ever going to end one way, which is why we’ve got to where we’ve got to.

Heading to Italy

In truth, Curtis Jones will provably suit life in Italy. The pace of play is a touch slower there, which will suit his desire to chew the ball and take the sting out of attacks. It will definitely be sad to see him leave, but it is understandable that he wants more from his career and that the Reds don’t think he’s worth the biggest bucks out there.

Reports in the media suggest that a deal has now been reached for him to make his way to the Italian side in a deal worth €35 million, which is about £30 million. Adam Wharton is the name that most people believe will be brought in to replace him, but sources inside Anfield have been leaking the news that there won’t be any signings for the midfield and his minutes will go to Trey Nyoni. We’ll see, I guess.
