Dan Gore: Rotherham boss Matt Hamshaw makes “hard” transfer admission ahead of January | OneFootball

Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw has admitted that his side are facing a fight to keep Dan Gore ahead of the January transfer window.

Having joined Rotherham during the summer transfer window, Gore has emerged as a key player for the side.

He has impressed at the heart of Rotherham’s midfield, expertly shielding the defence and dictating the tempo of play.

Gore has turned out 19 times in League One for Rotherham, contributing one assist in that period. He has started all 19 games.

The Carrington academy graduate recently opened his senior goal account in the 7-2 thrashing of Salford City in the Vertu Trophy second round.

Hamshaw spoke to reporters and acknowledged that Gore’s performances have undoubtedly put him on the radar of clubs in the upper reaches of League One and the Championship, who will likely contact United regarding his situation.

However, the Rotherham boss noted that United are happy with Gore’s progress and perhaps this could be enough to keep him for the rest of the season.

Hamshaw said [as quoted by the Yorkshire Post], “If we get to the end of January and he’s still here it would be a great signing.”

“Sometimes it’s hard with loans. You want your loan players to come in and really do well and then when they do well you might lose them in January.”

“I think Dan is enjoying it here, I’m in regular contact with Man United and they seem happy with him here but if anyone comes in with an offer that blows us out of the water then he’s going to go.”

Hamshaw added, “Our plan is that he stays here. He wants to stay here, he’s enjoying playing games. For a young player it’s important he has a 40-plus game season, so people can see he’s been fit for a full season.”

“I think Man United want that and it’s what we want.”

“If he’s still here on February 1 I’ll be delighted.”

Ultimately, United must judge if Gore is ready for a bigger challenge, or if his ongoing development at Rotherham is more beneficial to their plans.
