Barcelona star Dani Olmo will be ruled out for at least three weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder during the 3-1 win against Atletico Madrid (h/t Fabrizio Romano).
The attacking midfielder picked up the injury while scoring Barca’s second goal.
It will be a tough blow for the Catalan club and the Spaniard, who has been looking sharper in recent games.
The 27-year-old scored a stellar double in the win against Alaves over the weekend and looked more threatening against Atletico.
He has netted four goals and two assists in 13 La Liga games this season.
He is projected to miss the games against Real Betis, Eintracht Frankfurt, Osasuna and Villarreal this month.
Olmo’s setback adds to Barca’s growing midfield injury crisis.
Fermin Lopez is out with a soleus injury but could make his comeback against Betis this weekend.
Meanwhile, Gavi is recovering from a knee injury, while there’s a complete mystery regarding Frenkie de Jong’s absence in the last two games.
The Dutch midfielder missed the game against Alaves for personal reasons, and his absence against Atletico was attributed to a fever by Barca.
Pedri has just recovered from a hamstring injury, but that didn’t stop him from producing a midfield masterclass against Atletico.
The 23-year-old pulled strings from the midfield with absolute finesse, providing a sublime assist for Raphinha’s equaliser.
His form will be crucial for Barca to establish their dominance in all competitions in the second half of the season.
Manager Hansi Flick can rely on Marc Bernal, Marc Casado and Eric Garcia in the absence of Olmo.
Raphinha, who was on target against Atletico, is also adept at playing as a No.10.
Barca have now gone four points clear at the top of the La Liga table ahead of Real Madrid.
