Right-back Daniel Banjaqui, 18, has given Marco Silva a selection dilemma after impressing at San Siro ahead of Porto v Benfica.
According to Glorioso 1904, the coach has long valued the teenager’s qualities and believes he could have a big future with Benfica. Even so, the Milan display has taken on special weight and kept options open despite prior plans for the next match.
Banjaqui has started the past three fixtures, against Moreirense, Gil Vicente and Milan, underlining his growth in Silva’s thinking. In Milan he delivered a composed, mature performance that pleased the staff.
Still, Alexander Bah remains the stronger candidate for the starting XI in the clássico. Marco Silva had planned to reintroduce the full-back against Porto, but Banjaqui’s form has complicated that decision.
The dilemma now hangs over the clássico. Banjaqui is not necessarily favourite to start, yet his three-game run, especially his showing at Milan, could reshape the original plan.
