Daniel Chaves has set a clear target for FC Porto, to win inside 90 minutes as they debut in the women’s Super Cup against a seasoned Benfica.
According to O Jogo, he spoke before Sunday’s 17:15 kick-off at Estádio Municipal do Fontelo in Viseu, which will be refereed by Filipa Cunha from Viana do Castelo.
Chaves said Porto have prepared for every scenario, including penalties, but underlined that the priority is to settle it in normal time. He noted pre-season injuries had prompted some strategic adjustments.
With a young squad in the competition for the first time, he called for high concentration and real hunger. He accepted Benfica’s experience and international quality could bring early comfort.
The coach said recent arrivals add needed experience, aiding squad management, individual growth and tactical variety. Midfielder Fátima Pinto is among the recruits.
Pinto said she is very happy to be at FC Porto, while stressing the quality of the opponents, the reigning six-time champions and holders of the Portuguese Cup after beating Porto in the final.
She admitted Benfica’s sustained success shapes a mentality different from that of debutants, which could be a challenge. Even so, she argued a first-timer’s mindset can help, and Porto’s ambition might count in their favour.
