WSL: Vivien Endemann is making her mark at Liverpool | OneFootball

History has been created in the WSL, and Vivien Endemann is at the centre of it. The Liverpool forward has made an immediate impression since arriving at the club this summer, establishing herself as one of the standout performers in the opening weeks of the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Signed from Wolfsburg, Endemann arrived with a growing reputation in Germany, but her start to life in England has quickly turned heads. After just three league appearances, she has already become the first player in WSL history to score and assist in two of her first three matches in the division. It is a remarkable achievement for a player still finding her feet in a new league. 

Endemann announced herself on the opening weekend against Charlton Athletic. Liverpool ran out 4-0 winners at The Valley, with the German not only finding the net on her competitive debut but also providing an assist for Grace Fisk. A fortnight later, she produced another decisive moment. Liverpool travelled to Manchester City on Friday knowing they faced one of the toughest tests of the season. After Lauren Hemp gave City an early lead, Liverpool responded through Alice Bergström before Endemann completed the turnaround in the 28th minute.

The forward had already played a part in Bergström’s equaliser before putting Liverpool ahead herself, reacting quickly to a loose ball and firing past Ayaka Yamashita. Despite Liverpool eventually suffering a 4-2 defeat, Endemann once again left her mark on the game. City required two late goals to secure the victory, with Grace Fisk’s own goal in the 90th minute followed by Hemp’s stoppage-time strike. For Liverpool, it was a disappointing result. For Endemann, however, it was another indication that she can influence games against some of the strongest opposition in the division. 

A forward with more than one dimension:

Endemann’s early impact has not simply come from scoring goals. Her game is built around movement, directness and the ability to contribute in different areas of the attack. She can operate centrally or from wider positions, giving Liverpool another option when attempting to stretch defensive lines. 

Against Manchester City, that flexibility was particularly evident. She was involved in the build-up to Liverpool’s first goal before becoming the scorer herself, showing that her threat is not limited to what happens inside the penalty area. 

That ability to combine creativity with an eye for goal was also on display against Charlton, where she registered a goal and an assist in her first league appearance. Three WSL appearances into her Liverpool career, Endemann has two goals and two assists. For a summer arrival adapting to a new country, club and league, that is a significant start.

From Germany to Liverpool:

The move to Liverpool represents the latest stage of Endemann’s development. She joined Wolfsburg in 2023 after making her name with SGS Essen and spent three seasons at one of Germany’s leading clubs. Her time there gave her experience of competing alongside established international players and in European competition. 

That background has helped prepare her for the demands of the WSL, where the pace, physicality and quality of opposition can change from one week to the next. Now, Endemann is beginning to show that she can bring the same attacking qualities to English football. 

Her first three appearances have already produced a piece of league history. More importantly for Liverpool, they have provided evidence of a forward capable of making things happen in the final third. Liverpool’s season may have begun with a strong 4-0 win before ending in a narrow 4-2 defeat to Manchester City, but Endemann has been one of the clearest positives from their opening matches.
