Daniel Farke says Lukas Nmecha could return to the Leeds United squad for Sunday’s Premier League visit to Sunderland.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Nmecha has missed the last three matches with a hamstring issue managed week by week, and he was still symptomatic before last weekend’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace. He has four goals this season.

Farke noted progress and hopes to have the striker back in team training at some point this week. If those sessions go well, Nmecha could be considered for the squad and might travel. He is the only one of the long-term injuries with a chance of featuring.

Daniel James remains sidelined with a hamstring tendon problem sustained at Manchester City almost a month ago. Farke has said the winger will not require surgery, but he is still several weeks from even resuming training.

Leeds will be 16th on Christmas Day and are guaranteed to start at the Stadium of Light with at least a three-point gap to West Ham in the final relegation place. West Ham host Fulham on Saturday 27 December, while 17th-placed Nottingham Forest are at home to Manchester City.
