Daniel Farke says Leeds United will confirm decisions on out-of-contract players in the near future after behind-the-scenes discussions, but he is not ready to reveal anything yet.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-West Ham press conference before Sunday’s top-flight finale, he added that talks have begun and club announcements will follow once everything is agreed. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he indicated updates are due “pretty soon”, sooner than a few weeks.
Sam Byram and Illan Meslier are both out of contract at the end of June. Byram came off the bench against Brighton in the final home game, which Farke said had always been planned.
Byram’s second stint began with Farke’s arrival. He made 37 appearances in the first campaign, which ended in a Wembley play-off final defeat, then 39 last season as Leeds won the Championship and returned to the Premier League. This term, his Brighton cameo was only his second league outing.
Meslier joined on loan from Lorient in 2019 and helped win promotion under Marcelo Bielsa, replacing Kiko Casilla during the Covid-disrupted run-in. He then held the number one shirt for three Premier League seasons and began as Farke’s first choice in the Championship before high-profile errors last season led to Karl Darlow finishing the promotion push. Meslier’s last Leeds appearance was in March 2025, with Lucas Perri signed last summer and Darlow still preferred.
