Ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, manager Daniel Farke has almost a fully fit squad for the trip to the East Midlands.
There are two notable absences for the curtain raiser, however, according to the boss who addressed the media in his first press conference of the new term.
“Willy Gnonto will miss this game due to his hamstring injury. I hope he returns to team training soon but he will definitely miss this game.
“And also, Gabriel Gudmundsson is still out also for this game. Them two will definitely miss this first match. All the others at the moment, as it stands, are available.”
This week, the Whites bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of Swiss international defender Nico Elvedi, who joined the club from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The duo have worked together previously in Germany and discussing the new signing, Farke added: “He comes more or less like ready for the challenge and also with fresh excitement and new energy. That is what we wanted.
“In addition to that, he is also very flexible in the position that he can play. He can play the central position in the three-man formation but he can also play on the right and also on the left side.
“But, yes, as a centre-back, he has played more often on the left side than the right side, for example. It gives us even a bit more cover on all positions, anyhow, because our group is also not too big.
“And for that, we all get the feeling next to all these other qualities, it is a perfect fit for us. We are very happy to have him right now.”
