Daniel Farke revealed that Willy Gnonto has undergone surgery over the international break and confirmed Dan James will also miss the fixture against Burnley.

Gnonto missed Leeds’ 2-1 loss to Tottenham before the international break through a calf injury but he was expected to return this weekend.

Farke did have some good news for Leeds fans, however, saying that goalkeeper Lucas Perri has been progressing well after not featuring for the side since August with a thigh injury.

“Mixed injury news,” he said. “Good news with Lucas Perri, he was able to train over the last two weeks.

“Gnonto will not be available, his calf problems are sorted but he needed minor hernia surgery. He will be in training next week, but is not available for this away trip.

“The last two weeks have been very positive for Daniel James, as he is ahead of schedule. He was involved in team training this week, but he’s not in contention to be in the starting line-up.”

Farke also gave an update on Noah Okafor, who has been struggling with a recurring abductor injury since he joined the club.

“Okafor is struggling a little bit with abductor problems but he could be in contention for the travelling squad. We did not expect this and he could even get some minutes in the game.”

Perri started the first three matches for Leeds but after a thigh injury ruled him out of action Karl Darlow has played well in his place.

Darlow played for Wales against England and Belgium over the international break and Farke was asked whether a players’ form when playing for their national side is taken into account when he picks his side.

“Of course I watch international games but I don’t over interpret international football because they are not always playing their strongest teams. I do take a look at what my players are doing.

“What is most important is what happens here for us in the games and on the training pitch. I have been happy with what Karl has done so far and my opinion of both players has not changed on international duty.”
