Valencia will begin medicals on Thursday ahead of the official pre-season start next Monday at the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna. According to AS, Carlos Corberán does not count on Daniel Raba or Baptiste Santamaría.
The pair were told in January that they were not in the coach’s plans, with Corberán and Ron Gourlay indicating they would respect any decision to stay, but chances would be scarce. Since then, Raba has played 16 minutes across two matches, while Santamaría featured for two minutes against Levante after the winter window closed.
Both chose to remain for personal rather than professional reasons, and as July arrives they have yet to find a destination or formally inform Valencia. Raba is under contract until 2027 and cost the club nothing, while Santamaría, also tied to 2027, still has around one million to amortise.
Santamaría has no place even for friendlies. With Guido and Dieng signed and midfielders such as Ugrinic and Pepelu present, the 31-year-old has little room.
Raba’s case is different. Valencia no longer have attacking profiles like Lucas Beltrán and Ramazani, and Diego López is out injured. Raba is in no hurry to move, preferring to see whether pre-season can change Corberán’s mind, although in January the coach made clear he prefers another profile.
