Danilo has sealed his first promotion as a professional head coach, taking Uberlândia from Série D to Série C for 2027. According to Globo.com, the former São Paulo and Corinthians midfielder did it in only his second spell leading a professional side.

In the Série D quarter-finals, the Minas Gerais club beat CSA twice, 1-0 at Parque do Sabiá in Uberlândia then 2-0 at Estádio Rei Pelé in Maceió, earning a semi-final berth.

He was hired to replace Rogério Henrique, who was dismissed despite the team qualifying for the second phase as Group A11 leaders. Danilo had been without a club since the end of the Mineiro and was awaiting offers.

Since taking over he has overseen nine matches, with five wins, two draws and two defeats. Uberlândia have knocked out Rio Branco-ES, Serra Branca, Portuguesa and CSA in the Série D play-offs.

He credited the collective effort of players, staff and employees, adding the team worked hard, produced two big displays against a strong CSA and were deserving.

Nicknamed Zidanilo, he won the Libertadores and Club World Cup with both São Paulo and Corinthians, and also played for Goiás, Kashima Antlers and Vila Nova-GO.

After retiring he led Corinthians under-20s until 2024, lifting the Copa São Paulo that year. In 2026 he coached Pouso Alegre and won the Mineiro do Interior. Attention now turns to the Série D title.
