Danilo’s representatives want the midfielder to leave John Textor’s Botafogo after the World Cup, with the club mired in financial trouble following a pre-Libertadores exit.

ESPN reports that his camp plans to negotiate a move after the tournament, arguing the Rio side lack stability because of delayed payments. Botafogo will hold firm and demand a high fee to sell the midfielder.

In 2026, the club delayed players’ image-rights payments for the second consecutive month, as well as FGTS. If the backlog reaches three months, players can seek free contract termination in court.

Flamengo assessed options in their rival’s squad in January 2026 and viewed Danilo positively, although no official proposal was submitted.
