Former Premier League player Danny Murphy has stated Chelsea are “blessed” to have Malo Gusto following Saturday’s win against Everton.

The Blues returned to winning ways after a four game winless run with a 2-0 win against the Toffees, who they’ve not lost against at Stamford Bridge sine 1994.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring, whilst Gusto scored the all important second goal just before half time, and also got himself an assist.

Danny Murphy praises Malo Gusto

Enzo Maresca has often played Gusto and Reece James in the same team this season, with the captain being deployed in midfield.

After having a difficult season last time out, Gusto appears to be very much back to the sort of form he was showing in his debut campaign.

Maresca has previously described Gusto as one of Chelsea’s main players, and Murphy believes the Blues are blessed to have him.

“There have been a few hiccups but that’s a big result and the star of the show was probably not someone we would have predicted in Malo Gusto,” he told BBC Match of the Day.

“What an amazing performance. We’ve seen him play in midfield occasionally but he made some wonderful passes today, obviously setting up Cole Palmer for his goal.

“They are blessed to have two players who can both play right back and midfield at the same time. He’s got an incredible array of passes in his locker.

“When he is in his more orthodox position at right back he’s willing to get forward with the ball, travel with the ball and get into dangerous areas. He does that every time Chelsea play.”

Playing two right backs a problem for Enzo Maresca.

As well as Gusto has done, Murphy feels playing two right backs in the same team longer term could be an issue for the manager.

“It might be a bit of a problem for the manager because both can play in that position but it’s a great option to have because defensively he is really good.”

Both Gusto and Reece James will likely find themselves on the bench on Tuesday night against Cardiff in the Carabao Cup.
