Danny Rohl has made a major admission about Rangers’ future innocuously by confirming his media duties.
That is to say, the Rangers manager, because he’s effectively manager now, dropped a big hint about both Rangers’ scouting and his own position.
Rohl was speaking about his hopes of punditing at next summer’s world cup, having done so for the Euros last year, when he added a big clue.
He said:
“I’m looking forward to the World Cup and maybe I can go there for a couple of days. I had the great opportunity last year with the Euros where I worked for the TV. I don’t know yet if this will happen again but it was great to be part of some games. Maybe there’s a chance I could do it again but, for me, it’s important to focus on the league. It’s also great for Rangers. You can look at so many players from all over the world. It will be the first week because then we start with our pre-season. It’s about timing.”

AKA Rohl would as much love to be at the world cup next year in order to scout for talent at Ibrox.
This is a big shift from the (recent) days of the outgone Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell. Basically, the former boss was the overlord of all football and Rohl was just the yes man.
Now Rohl appears to be taking on a lot more responsibility. One of those would be a key role in recruitment.
What we can definitely say is all new signings are Danny Rohl’s – either in approval, scouting, or choice.
And if he’s at the world cup he will be looking for further players to bring to Rangers.
The fact is Kevin Thelwell had too much power, and now Rohl is inheriting some of that power.
He must be judged on his players, his team, his recruitment. And he will have a chance to do that next month no less. But then a big festival of football in the USA next year will give him more chance.
The floor is now Danny Rohl’s.
