Darwin Nunez has joined promoted Al-Diriyah on loan from Al-Hilal for the 2026-27 season. L'Équipe reports that the 27-year-old Uruguay international will spend the campaign with Bruno Lage's side, with no option to buy.
Nunez moved to Al-Hilal in August 2025 for €53 million after three years at Liverpool. He last played on 16 February, scoring twice, and was not called up thereafter by Simone Inzaghi because he was unregistered for the Saudi Pro League and the King Cup.
In his first season in Saudi Arabia he produced nine goals and five assists in 24 appearances, yet he struggled to emerge from Karim Benzema's shadow.
Talks were held with Trabzonspor, where he could have reunited with former team-mate Mohamed Salah, but he remains in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Diriyah, based on the outskirts of the Saudi capital, have reinforced heavily in recent weeks. Chancel Mbemba, Idrissa Gueye, Berat Djimsiti, Adil Boulbina and Enzo Millot have all arrived.
In attack, Nunez will line up alongside former Ligue 1 forwards Gaëtan Laborde and Georges-Kévin Nkoudou.
