Daryl Dike has responded to Harry Whitwell’s message to West Brom fans after his goal in the 3-1 win over Burnley.

The Baggies went behind in the early stages due to an own goal scored by Callum Styles, but the 20-year-old’s equaliser in the 18th minute ensured the sides were level at the halfway mark.

A second half brace from Isaac Price ensured that James Morrison’s side took home all three points against the Clarets on Sunday afternoon.

The victory means that West Brom are one of four sides to have six points from a possible six after the opening two fixtures of the new campaign.

Albion narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season, so fans will be taking a lot of optimism from this positive start to the term.

Morrison was appointed permanent manager after helping the club survive, and his aim will now be to lead the team back towards promotion contention.

Whitwell scored the first league goal of his West Brom career against Burnley, and he has posted a message on Instagram to supporters to celebrate the moment and the three points earned by the team.

He praised the atmosphere at the Hawthorns, with the 20-year-old now starting in both of the Baggies’ opening two league games this season.

“Great three points, atmosphere was top and first league goal at The Hawthorns,” wrote Whitwell.

Former teammate Dike was among the people to respond to Whitwell’s message, with the forward showing encouragement to the youngster, writing: “Let's goooo.”

It was reported earlier this month that Whitwell was attracting transfer interest from rivals Norwich City.

The youngster made just two league appearances for West Brom last season, as he spent the campaign on loan with non-league side Forest Green Rovers.

During his time in the fifth tier, Whitwell scored twice from 23 league appearances to help the team secure a seventh place finish.

How Daryl Dike is faring after West Brom exit

Dike made the move back to his former side Orlando City following his exit from West Brom in the summer.

The American signed from the Miami outfit in January 2022, but injury issues plagued his time at the Hawthorns.

The 26-year-old has so far made three MLS appearances since returning to the United States, coming off the bench on each occasion, failing to score.

Meanwhile, West Brom will return to action midweek where they will face Newcastle United away on 26 August in the second round of the EFL Cup.

Whitwell has returned from Forest Green Rovers and is making the most of the first team opportunities he’s being afforded.

The jump back up from the fifth tier could be quite tricky to adjust to, but the 20-year-old is performing well and his goal is a fine reward.

If he can keep this up, then he could cement himself as a key part of Morrison’s plans for the rest of the season.

His strong start to the campaign is an exciting moment for West Brom fans, and there is now surely no chance that he departs before the market shuts next week.
