David Neres has replaced Raphinha in Brazil’s squad for their latest round of World Cup qualifiers.
The Barcelona winger was withdrawn from Fernando Diniz’s side after suffering a hamstring injury in last week’s win over Sevilla.
Benfica counterpart Neres takes Raphinha’s place as he aims to make a first appearance for the Seleção since 2019.
“Raphinha was recalled from the Brazilian Men’s National Team, following a conversation between the team’s doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, and the club’s medical department,” confirmed a Brazil statement.
“The reason was a muscle injury to the back of the player’s right thigh.
“In his place, coach Fernando Diniz called up David Neres from Benfica, for Brazil ‘s next games against Venezuela, on October 12th, in Cuiabá, and against Uruguay, on the 17th of the same month, in Montevideo, for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.”
Brazil currently lead their qualifying group with a 100% start which puts them ahead of world champions Argentina on goal difference.
