Transfer expert for The Athletic David Ornstein has revealed the fee that Liverpool have paid to sign Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea.

The move at the time caused a bit of a stir because this guy is a highly rated young player, and Chelsea fans knew very well that they were losing a gem. But for whatever reason, they couldn’t keep hold of him and he made the decision to go and play for Liverpool instead and try his luck there, rather than stay at Chelsea where he came through the academy.

Some people will feel that Chelsea have got decent money for a player who was yet to even sign a professional contract, whereas others who are experts on the Blues academy will know that this fee will soon end up looking like an absolutely bargain for a player with a very high ceiling.

According to the report, Liverpool must pay an initial fee worth £2.8million — which could rise by a further £4m — for the signing of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea. This was decided at tribunal.

I think it is safe to say that paying so little for any player in the top leagues these days will be considered a bargain. But for me, I think this fee will soon look like an absolutely bargain of the century for Liverpool – this guy is a superb talent.
