David Ornstein gives Mikel Arteta contract update | OneFootball

Mikel Arteta is likely to agree a new contract with Arsenal after the transfer window closes, according to a report.

David Ornstein reports for NBC Sports that Mikel Arteta is going to be staying at Arsenal, despite entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Ornstein expects Arsenal to reach an agreement with Arteta in due course, with both parties on the same page and moving in the right direction.

The two haven’t quite reached that agreement yet, with the focus on the transfer window, but Ornstein believes Arteta will put pen to paper once the window closes.

Arteta himself and members of the Arsenal hierarchy had given positive updates on the manager’s contract situation in recent days, with Arteta saying fans “don’t have to worry”.

The Arsenal boss added “I want to be here, I’m extremely happy,” while indicating the new agreement will be completed when both parties have the opportunity.

Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick then confirmed: “Mikel wants to be at Arsenal and we want Mikel at Arsenal. It’s only a matter of time before we put that into a new contract.

“Everyone is very confident and calm. We’re just navigating a transfer window and I’m sure Mikel’s contract will be resolved very shortly.”

None of this is really surprising. Arsenal are currently in a very strong situation, with the club in real contention for trophies again this season (having already won the Community Shield).

Arteta is well paid, well respected, and well backed by the club in the transfer market. Arsenal haven’t always landed their first-choice targets, but there’s never been a sense of the manager being hung out to dry by disinterested owners.

Not many managers can say all that about their current roles, and not many clubs have a manager capable of delivering at the top level. There’s really no reason for anything other than a contract extension for the Gunners boss.
