Leeds United have reached agreement to sign Harry Wilson as a free agent from Fulham, with a medical due and a long-term, higher-salary deal, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Daniel Farke has searched for a reliable no.10 since Pablo Hernandez left. Brenden Aaronson has been the closest fit, yet inconsistency has told, and moves for James McAtee and Fabio Carvalho did not materialise while in the Championship.

Facundo Buonanotte arrived in January but was often left out of the squad. Wilson, 29, came close to joining Leeds last summer before Fulham halted the move, then delivered 17 Premier League goal contributions last season.

He could be the player to fill Hernandez’s creative void. Hernandez delivered 77 goals and assists in 175 Leeds outings, while Wilson has 89 in 187 games for Fulham, most of them in the Premier League.

The underlying numbers are striking too. Hernandez created 116 chances in 2018-19 and averaged 0.22 xG per 90 at Leeds, while Wilson produced 102 chances in 2021-22 with 0.29 xG and 0.26 xA at Fulham.
