David Ornstein suggests £60m Premier League full-back now the most suitable target for Man Utd after Hall extension | OneFootball

David Ornstein has suggested that Adrien Truffert is being targeted by a host of top English clubs for the 2027 transfer windows.

Manchester United, in particular, are expected to invest to bolster their backline, having opted against doing so with even one addition this summer.

Now, the Red Devils’ plans have taken a hit after Lewis Hall committed his long-term future to Newcastle United by signing a bumper two-year deal today.

He was already tied to St. James’ Park until 2029, but is now contracted to his boyhood club until 2031.

It means Newcastle will be in an incredibly strong position if United decide to renew their interest at the end of the season. No release clause was included in his new terms, and the Magpies will be under no pressure to facilitate a sale.

Alas, INEOS chiefs will likely have to turn their attention elsewhere on the left-back market – and Truffert has been deemed a suitable candidate.

The Frenchman signed for Bournemouth in a £14.4 million switch from Rennes in June 2025.

He has since racked up 41 top-flight appearances, making him a Premier League-proven option for United, which is what INEOS have favoured since arriving at Old Trafford.

Truffert’s contract with the Cherries runs until 2030, though they may struggle to keep hold of him if numerous suitors come in with lucrative offers in less than a year’s time.

Meanwhile, Ornstein said of the 24-year-old on The Athletic Podcast: “Not many clubs recruited in that left-back position, which means there’s going to be a need on the horizon. Truffert has a really good age profile. He’s the sort of player that you could see moving.

“Manchester United were one team that we talked about with left-backs over the window, and there will be more. It is going to be an interesting one.

“I’m hearing a value of around £60m and that there’s potentially a deal to be done next summer. I could see him being capable of playing for one of the biggest clubs.”
