David Prutton has predicted a 2-2 draw between Middlesbrough and Sheffield United for their upcoming Monday night clash.

Boro will travel to Bramall Lane in fantastic form, looking to keep the pace at the top of the Championship table amid Coventry City's mini wobble recently.

Kim Hellberg’s side have won their last five in a row, last suffering defeat on 1 January in a 1-0 loss to Derby County.

They entered the weekend level on points with the Sky Blues, with the two sides occupying the automatic promotion places.

Meanwhile, the Blades still have faint hopes of earning a play-off place again this season under Chris Wilder, and will be looking to make it three wins from their last four league games when Boro travel to face the Yorkshire outfit.

Prutton believes that Middlesbrough’s fine form in recent weeks is hard to ignore, but that Sheffield United must get results if they are to remain in the conversation for a top six finish.

He’s claimed that Hellberg’s side are one of the two favourites for promotion at the moment, but he thinks their winning run will come to an end with a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane on Monday evening.

“I don’t think they’ve left themselves too little time (to push for promotion),” said Prutton, via Sky Sports.

“They’ve given themselves a hell of a job, given how stop-start this season has been off the back of Ruben Selles going, Chris coming back in.

“But they face a Boro side in ridiculously rude health, and in the type of form where they’ve been hunting down Coventry for so long, you get the feeling that sense of momentum can carry past the Sky Blues.

“They’re one of two favourites (for promotion).

“I think it’s going to be 2-2.”

Middlesbrough have not been in the Premier League since 2017, but their performances this season have presented them with a chance at a return to the division.

Wilder’s side reached the play-off final in the previous campaign, but a 2-1 loss to Sunderland consigned them to another year in the Championship.

The Blades entered the weekend 15th in the table, eight points adrift of sixth place Wrexham with 16 games still to go.

Middlesbrough will travel to face Sheffield United on 9 February in an 8.01pm kick-off.

Middlesbrough face toughest test yet of winning run

Middlesbrough has earned some impressive results in this winning run, including a 4-0 victories over Southampton and Preston North End.

But a trip to Sheffield United might be their toughest test yet of this impressive spell, and a sixth win in a row would be a real sign of their progress under Hellberg.

But if the Blades want to earn a top six finish, then they need to be winning all of their home games for the rest of the season, so there is a lot at stake for this Monday night fixture.
