David came off the bench in Vasco’s 2-0 win at Vitória to seal a Copa do Brasil semi-final place. His appearance came two days after he was targeted in searches by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo over possible interstate trafficking of drugs and weapons.
According to Globo.com, he travelled as normal and remained in the plans for the match at Barradão. He warmed up smiling and chatted briefly with Vitória staff, the club where he began his professional career.
The forward started on the bench and replaced Spinelli in the second half. He held the ball better than his Argentine team-mate, linking play and nearly supplying an assist, but Colidio missed a one-on-one at 34 minutes. Vasco’s travelling support later chanted his name after the tie was secured.
He was relaxed around team-mates and received backing from players and the board in recent days. Search and seizure warrants were executed at his home and at the club’s training ground.
The investigation also targeted Hayner of Vila Nova, with possible links of other professionals and businessmen to the alleged criminal group under scrutiny. The operation ran across several states, using about 100 civil police officers, more than 38 vehicles and two helicopters, in a coordinated interstate action to carry out court orders and confront criminal organisations.
