Hillsborough is set to have a different look about it...

A new era was ushered in at Hillsborough at the start of May, with David Storch's takeover of stricken Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday being confirmed - and it couldn't have been a more perfect start.

After a previous false dawn of a takeover bid from James Bord a few months prior, the Owls were looking to come out of the administration that maligned previous owner Dejphon Chansiri put them in, and it was decided that Storch and his consortium had the next-best bid.

And not only did the news of the completed takeover come prior to a final day win over West Brom at home to make sure the club finished on zero points after a number of deductions over the course of the campaign, but Storch's negotiations with the EFL saw a points deduction for the 2026-27 League One campaign NOT imposed, in what was a shock, but positive twist.

Since the previous season ended, hard work has been taking place to make the Wednesday setup look more professional off the pitch, and with ex-Stockport County chief Simon Wilson coming in as sporting director and David Bruce appointed as CEO, Storch has certainly made sweeping changes.

And whilst the playing squad is now being addressed ahead of the new season starting in August, Storch is also making some cosmetic changes to Hillsborough - with a big one taking place this week.

Big change happening at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough Stadium

Images from Sheffield Wednesday's stadium seem to suggest that a change is occurring on the outside of the South Stand - and it's one that was somewhat to be expected.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Owls were to change badges and they were to return to the classic Owl that was seen between 1970 and 1984.

The last 10 years had seen Wednesday adopt the badge that they had previously used betwen 1956 and 1970, but the Owl badge that followed it is now coming back, albeit a lighter shade of blue and the 'SWFC' letters appearing below the animal - which can be seen here.

And as documented by the Sheffield Star's George Smith, workers are taking down the previous badge in order to put the new one up on the South Stand, which is the main stand at Hillsborough which houses the main reception, the players tunnel and the directors' box.

That will mean the new Sheffield Wednesday crest will soon be put up for all to see around Hillsborough, and the fact that the 1970 logo is coming back has had a good reception from the fanbase.

Since the takeover went through, there has been so many reasons for Sheffield Wednesday supporters to be excited about the future - and the new logo adds to that.

It is merely a cosmetic change rather than anything substantial, but the last logo will be remembered for over 10 years of Chansiri, and that's not a memory that the fans want as they head into League One.

What Storch has done in the space of a couple of months has reinvigorated a whole fanbase with the moves he has been making off the pitch, and the first handful of player signings and new contracts are also reason to be hopeful as well.

That won't necessarily translate to immediate success on the pitch, but you wouldn't bet against a raucous Hillsborough fanbase getting their club over the line next season.
