The Owls endured a disastrous season last year, with significant off-field issues hampering their ability to compete.

Henrik Pedersen’s side finished bottom of the Championship, but new owners Arise Capital will be hoping to use this summer to rebuild the first team squad.

The Yorkshire outfit will want to return to a competitive level, and potentially even compete for promotion in League One in 2026/27.

The club have already completed the signings of Ricardo Santos, Jordi Liongola and Callum Slattery, and there are likely more to come.

Sheffield Wednesday face a busy few weeks between now and the campaign starting, as well as the September 1 transfer deadline.

It has been reported by The Star that Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a deal for Aston Villa’s Louie Barry, and perhaps surprisingly, it is believed that the Owls are keen on a permanent deal, although a loan move could yet still come to fruition.

Due to the financial restrictions in place at Hillsborough though after they were in administration last season, it’s understood the size of any possible bid will be limited, and the new hierarchy are unlikely to meet the £3.5 million asking price that was in place 12 months ago.

Barry has previously played for rivals Sheffield United, where he struggled to make much of an impact.

The 23-year-old made just nine league appearances for the Blades in the Championship, starting on six occasions before being recalled in January.

However, his best performances came during his spells with Stockport County, where he scored 27 goals from 49 league appearances across three separate stints.

New Sheffield Wednesday sporting director Simon Wilson would’ve been key to bringing him to Stockport, having previously held that role with the League One side.

How Sheffield Wednesday fans feel about Louie Barry interest

Sheffield Wednesday fans are quite excited by the prospect of signing Barry from Aston Villa, particularly if the deal is done on a permanent basis.

Fans believe that he could bring something special to Pedersen’s side, and that he’d provide the kind of attacking threat the team will need.

Sheffield Wednesday have been urged to give everything they can to ensure they complete this move.

However, some fans have warned that it might not be as strong a transfer as might be expected, highlighting his difficult loan spells away from Stockport as a red flag.

Louie Barry move could be great business for Sheffield Wednesday

Barry’s best performances have come in League One, where he has looked sensational for Stockport in the past.

He is coming off the back of a disappointing season, but perhaps a permanent move would offer him the stability he needs to get his career back on track.

The 23-year-old has moved around a lot in the last few years, which won’t have helped him to develop.

If Sheffield Wednesday can get some kind of deal over the line despite their financial restrictions, then it could prove an excellent piece of business from the new owners.
