David Sullivan was reportedly barred from contact with West Ham’s youth and women’s teams from 2023, with the restriction also covering attendance at their matches, according to The Athletic.
The safeguarding measure was put in place by the club, the Football Association and local authorities after an inquiry was opened following reports concerning Sullivan, and it was not public at the time.
West Ham and the FA declined to comment, instead pointing to safeguarding programmes. The FA said it could not discuss individual safeguarding matters, including ongoing cases.
Sullivan, 77, who has recently stepped down as co-chair, said there was a temporary agreement with the FA that he would not be alone with members of the youth or women’s set-ups. He said it followed an anonymous 1981 complaint unrelated to football and maintained the alleged conduct never happened.
The Welsh businessman has also been accused by seven women of sexual exploitation and abuse of power in a joint investigation by the BBC and The Times. He denies the allegations, and there have been no criminal charges.
